Distinguished Graduate Professor, and the Program Coordinator of the Master of Science degree in Computer Networks at NC State University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Operations Research from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, in 1975. He has published extensively in the area of performance modeling of computer and communication systems, and he has organized several national and international conferences. In 1995 he founded the IFIP Working Group 6.3 on the Performance of Communication Systems, and he was the chairman from 1995 to 2002. Since 2004, he is the chairman of the IFIP Working Group 6.10 on Optical Networks. He is also a member of IFIP Working Groups 6.2 and 7.3, a member of the National Lambda Rail Network Research Council, and an IEEE Senior Member. He is also an associate Editor for the Performance Evaluation Journal, and the Telecommunications Systems Journal. His current research interests are in the areas of optical networks, performance monitoring of grids, autonomic computing, and service science management and engineering 
Dean NUST IT Wing, NUST-SEECS - Dr. Zaidi, is a celebrated researcher and practitioner in IT education, and enjoys enviable credentials as a scholar of remarkable vision and commitment. He acquired his PhD from University Of South Florida , USA . During his distinguished academic research career spanning well over two decades, he has published over 75 research papers in prestigious international Journals/conferences. He is the recipient of several coveted honours and awards which notably include: NCR National IT Excellence Award for Research and Development and Gold Medal for the year 2000 – 2001; NCR National Excellence Award for IT Education in the year 2003. Recently, Charlotte Research Institute (CRI), USA has accorded him the status of “Duke Energy Distinguished Research Visiting Scholar. Currently, Dr Zaidi is leading, from NUST-SEECS, Pakistan , a major collaborative research project with five internationally renowned research groups. These groups are Center for Optoelectronics & Optical communications, UNCC, USA ; Stanford, Photonics Network Research Lab, Caltech Ultralight research group; and CMR Tennessee Tech University and Carolinas Micro-optics Triangle, USA .
